Let me start by saying: our approach to health might look a little different than most

We tend to keep doctor visits to a minimum—mainly just our annual checkups—unless something unexpected pops up (like, say, a rogue Lego in the ear… which, thankfully, hasn’t happened yet).
It’s not that we don’t trust doctors—we do! We just try to support our health day-to-day in hopes of needing fewer visits overall.
We’ve been lucky—blessed, really—with two healthy little girls. And because we believe in a proactive vs. reactivelifestyle, our version of preventative care includes a rainbow-hued smoothie every morning, packed with more antioxidants than a superhero summit.

Homemade Greek yogurt, elderberry, acai, wild blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, dragon fruit… basically, if it ends in berry, it ends up in the blender.
When sniffles sneak in, we whip out the honey and propolis (post age 1.5, don’t worry—we’ve Googled responsibly). It’s not that we’re anti-Western medicine.
We just believe the human body is a rockstar that deserves the mic before calling in backup singers like Tylenol. So unless there’s a fever trying to set off the smoke alarm, we take a deep breath… and let it ride.
Now, once a year, we do the Big Health Week: blood tests, dental visits, pediatrician checkups—all in one go.
It sounded like chaos at first:
“Surprise! You’re seeing every single doctor you’ve ever met this week!”
But turns out? They love it.
It’s become their health holiday. They ask,
“When do I get to see the dentist again?” like it’s a trip to Disneyland. (But cheaper. Slightly.)
And the best part? The understanding.
They know we don’t go to doctors because we’re sick—we go because we want to stay well.
Which brings me to our latest visit:
AJ sits in the dentist chair, kicking her legs, looking like a 3-foot boss.
The dentist says, “No cavities, perfect teeth!” and AJ beams, throws her hands in the air, and says:
“I brush every day, it’s working—yay!”
And in that moment, somewhere between the fluoride and the fist bump, I realized: yes, the everyday work is hard.
The smoothies, the reminders, the honey-sticky hands, the “why” questions that never end.
But moments like this? They remind me that it’s so worth it.
Quote of the Day (courtesy of AJ):
“I brush every day. It’s working. YAY!”
Cheers to letting the body do its thing—
one yogurt-smeared smile at a time.
